TRANSIT ORIENTED TPS FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING

ACROSS ALL INCOME GROUPS

The project aims at forming a prototype of an Affordable Housing Scheme for all income groups that is self financing. For this, a town planning model on land located few kilometres away from an existing arterial system is tapped for its low prices and is linked to the arterial network with a low cost Mass Transit system that is high speed and high frequency. In this case a Bus Rapid Transit System which forms the central spine of the TPS. The entire spectrum of income groups is included in this scheme. Land parcels for the better off is better located with more liberal building regulations so that it can be higher priced and can in turn subsidise the lower income spectrum. Affordability is considered to be 4 years income and size and quality of the finishes vary as per the income. A comprehensive township with physical and social amenities is planned with government initiative but build by private contracting agencies. Land parcels in two municipal corporations namely VVMC and MBMC are studied in detail and feasibility analysis is carried out.
